Renewable Energy

Posted on: 4, Dec

We use these non-renewable resources to do many things, including supplying us with power, heating our homes, businesses and schools and more. What we have to rely on in the future is renewable resources. These resources are all resources that offer us an abundant supply and will never run out. The renewable resources consist of Solar, Wind, Biomass, Hydrogen, Geothermal, Ocean, and Hydro power We need all of these and right now we have access to each one of them. Solar refers to the solar energy that we get everyday either directly or indirectly from the sun. Solar energy can be used for several things, such as heating, electricity to home, schools, businesses, or buildings, heating water, cooling and ventilation.

Wind helps the suns heat down to earth. Hydro power takes energy from flowing water and captures it turning it into electricity. Hydro power is very complicated and requires a great deal of technology in order to successfully accumulate energy from water.

Hydrogen is the most abundant element found on earth, usually with other elements. If hydrogen is found alone it can be burned or converted into electricity.

Geothermal looks toward the inner parts of the earth for heat and can be used for power, heating, and cooling.

Ocean produces thermal energy using the heat from the sun. As you can see the renewable resources are all around us. There are so many benefits to using renewable resources. The knowledge we learn from today will help us use the energy more wisely.

Easy Ways to Recycle

Posted on: 3, Dec

Do you think that recycling is something that has to be hard; otherwise if it’s not hard, then it doesn’t count? I’m embarrassed to say that at one time, these were the thoughts that ran through my head and they justified my reasons for not recycling. I’m here to tell you that I was mistaken; recycling isn’t something difficult, or something you have to go out of your way to participate in and when it’s easy, well, it’s just easy; and it still counts toward recycling.

Here are some of the easy ways I have found to recycle:

I have a terrible habit of leaving lights on when I leave a room. The first two ways I found to conserve energy and count myself in as a “recycler” was to turn off lights as I left a room. Sounds easy, right? Well, that’s because it is easy. The great thing is, the times that I have left a light on, I’m given the final opportunity to stop and turn around and turn off the lights before leaving the room for good. Is this a difficult change? The other way I have found to easily adhere to this recycling thing is that I changed my lightbulbs. Yup, that simple act of replacing a burned-out bulb with one of the new, energy saving kind has really been a big help. The newer bulbs use up to 75% less energy when lighting a room and they will last up to ten times longer, too.

Global Warming: The Benefits

Posted on: 20, Nov

It is certain that enough global warming could be harmful to human beings. Few people would argue and say that a warm climate is not preferable to a cold one. Not only are warm climates generally more pleasant, there are health benefits as well. People who suffer from conditions that are affected by the cold, such as rheumatoid arthritis, often move to warmer climates. A small amount of global warming would allow people to stay in their homes.

One scientist did an extensive study of statistics to find out the health benefits of warmer weather. For example, days were shorter in winter, but they would not be shorter if more global warming occurred.

In 2004, it was observed by lobster fishermen that the warmer temperatures caused by global warming had affected their work. There seemed to be an abundance of Maine lobsters living and thriving in the warmer waters. It has been thought for quite some time that global warming would increase the amount of corn, wheat, barley, and other grains that could be grown. Not only the warmer weather and the longer growing seasons were anticipated to yield this result. Carbon dioxide exposure was expected to increase productivity along with global warming.

Studies have shown, though, that the carbon dioxide benefits are very minimal. Furthermore, agriculture in tropical zones is expected to decline rapidly as the temperature becomes too hot to support plant life. Some economists point to global warming as a boon to international trade. People give plenty of reasons to embrace global warming.

Building a Hydrogen Fuel Cell

Posted on: 11, Nov

Have you finally decided to get a hydrogen fuel cell for your vehicle? There are a lot of advantages in building a hydrogen fuel cell. If you’re looking for a cost effective energy source, make it hydrogen fuel. The parts of the hydrogen fuel cell can be obtained from the hardware store in your local area. Even if the hydrogen fuel cell is a powerful system, the parts are fortunately inexpensive and not very complicated.

Another advantage is that the fuel cells are not complicated. In order to build a fuel cell you will need the following equipment:

1. Quart-sized water container
2. Vacuum hose
3. Electrical wiring to be used in connecting the car battery to an HHO generator
4. Baking soda

If you don’t want to trouble yourself in purchasing the materials one by one, you can also buy HHO car kits. Building rocket power is definitely easy as compared to rocket science. The hydrogen fuel cells are not complicated and if you purchase the kits, it is equipped with step by step instructions in building the fuel cells.

If you choose to purchase the materials one by one, you still need to find the information on how to build the hydrogen fuel cells. You can find all the needed resources online to help you build the fuel cells. All the materials needed to build the fuel cell are included in the kit and you don’t have to research online for the instructions because it also included in the kit.

If you want to enjoy an unlimited supply of useful and clean energy, build your own HHO fuel cell now.

You may wonder why someone would want such tall windows in their home. Any home can be built to use solar power with just a few minor alteration to make and you too can build a solar power house that will save you a lot of money in the future as you use solar power to heat your home, pump and heat your water and also to provide energy to your home to power your appliances and lights in your home naturally and effectively without a monthly bill

Here are just a few suggestions when building your solar power home. That way you are allowing the sun to shine through and warm your home naturally. Don’t use dark colours in your home to decorate with. Adding a solar source outside where you can use a solar power designed box to attract the heat from the sun can be transformed into energy to power your home and warm your water. The products that it takes to get this accomplished will cost a little more than if you built a standard home without using solar power. Ceiling fans can produce a more even amount of heat and air without having hot and cold pockets throughout the home. Keep the doors closed during the time of day that the sun is shining in on that side of your home in order to save the heat inside your home longer.

Owning a solar power home means that you are encouraging preserving our natural resources for the future.

Tropical forests constitute about 7% of the earth’s land area; and about 90% of it has already been destroyed. Can you imagine what the world would be like if all untouched areas of the earth will be totally depleted? A number of problems could definitely arise, from long term ailments to environmental crisis and even cultural problems. If changes could be made somehow, then there would be likely chances of world and population survival in the coming generations ahead. Remember, there are millions of people to be born and who will inhabit the earth after us.

Human activities have considerably distorted the natural dissemination of forests through history. Tropical deforestation and habitat annihilation is relentlessly crippling the forest ecosystem. Climate changes have been noticed to cover all of the earth due to the accelerating number of tropical forest damage. Fall of two or more trees have been proven to cause much effects on the earth’s environment and atmosphere as well. People may have never thought that the scattered tropical forests are the lungs of our world.

The only known way to halt the destruction of tropical forests is to stop all activities which lead to the act. Even in tropical deforestation, there is no one above the law. Conscientiousness should also run from every individual in this planet; without this, people will keep destroying our natural environment.

We also need honest and responsible people to lead our world in the fight against biological killing. The means of stopping tropical deforestation and healing the earth are definitely huge steps to carry on; it needs people who are dependable and devoted to nature in every way possible. Unless this consciousness seeps through our veins, there is definitely no other way to save the earth.

There is no doubt that the earth’s climate is constantly changing. The weather is getting decidedly warmer. For the most part, the United States has already warmed up some. In some places, the average rise in temperature is around four degrees Fahrenheit. In 2006, the annual average temperature was 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Recent warm years point to a climate change being brought on by global warming.

Climate changes due to global warming can be seen in the prevalence of drought. Years are becoming drier in recent decades due to global warming. Excessive evaporation intensifies drought even more during the spring and fall.

Global warming has upped the level of drought. A major drought in the US lasted from 1999-2002. The last 30 years in particular have seen numerous droughts. These droughts have spawned wildfires that set new records in 2006 for number of fires and of acres burned. Further proof of global warming is seen in these destructive wildfires.

While the overall effect of global warming is heat followed by drought, there are still storms. Since global warming energizes the atmosphere, these storms will be different. Because of global warming, storms are becoming more destructive. The number of times it rains in a year has increased during the last 50 years due to global warming. What is more, global warming is causing storms to intensify. Hurricanes have been rated higher in recent years as global warming affects their intensity.

Global warming is responsible for many climate changes. Often, people cause the increase in global warming that precipitates these changes. If people could make it a common goal to cut down on activities that promote global warming, the earth would be a much more stable environment.
